MCCC Adult Education’s Firefighter and EMT first-responder programs are growing rapidly — expanding both in scope and opportunity for students.
In Spring 2023, MCCC offered three core programs: Firefighter I, Firefighter II Transition and EMT-B. As we head into Spring 2026, our training lineup has grown significantly to meet the needs of aspiring and current first responders.
The journey can begin with our 36-Hour Volunteer Firefighter Foundation Course, designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of fire safety and support operations. This course equips participants with the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to assist their local fire departments in essential support roles.
Students interested in pursuing a firefighting career can advance to our 160-hour Firefighter I program, earning Ohio Firefighter I certification along with Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) certification. We also offer a comprehensive 204-hour EMT program that prepares students to serve with ambulance services, rescue squads and fire departments.
For those ready to build on their Firefighter I training, the 84-hour Firefighter II Transition course provides advanced instruction leading to certification as an Ohio Department of Public Safety Firefighter II.
In addition, MCCC offers several stand-alone certification opportunities, including:
- A 16-hour Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC)
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- AHA Heartsaver CPR/First Aid
- Stop the Bleed
For individuals interested in becoming instructors, our Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I & II programs follow education standards approved by the State Board of Emergency Medical, Fire, and Transportation Services and the Executive Director of the Division of EMS.
Looking ahead, MCCC is expanding even further. Upcoming advanced programs include:
Fire Safety Inspector – An 88-hour certification program for Ohio Department of Public Safety firefighters
Fire Officer I and Fire Officer II – Leadership-focused programs designed to prepare firefighters for management, supervisory and command roles within a fire company
With dedicated, experienced instructors and a state-of-the-art Fire Tower and Training Center, MCCC provides extensive hands-on training in real-world scenarios. The effectiveness of our programs is reflected in our outstanding first-time certification pass rates: 89.13% for Fire programs and 100% for EMT.
At MCCC, students receive solid training and meaningful opportunities to learn, grow and serve their communities with confidence.
