This course consists of 160 hours of basic to intermediate instruction. Upon completion of this course, firefighters will understand fire, fire suppression and fire suppression systems, fire behavior, fire chemistry, fire rescue, firefighting tools and their uses, appliances, fire equipment, safety, rescue, and survival. Students will also receive a state of Ohio certified Emergency Vehicle Operations Course certificate with this course. Students without the eight (8) hours of Basic EMS Training prerequisite will be certified as an American Heart Association Heath Care Provider for CPR/AED and First Aid.
Prerequisites: 1) Must be at least 18 years old; 2) Have a valid Ohio Driver’s License; 3) Clean criminal record; 4) Completion of NIMS 100 & 700; 5) Valid physical examination (physicals are valid for one year from the date they were performed); 6) High School diploma or equivalent; 7) Eight hours of basic EMS training to include CPR, Trauma, Stroke, and PPE; 8) Successful completion of the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) or college transcript.
Students are required to furnish their own turn-out gear and SCBA.
Classes are held Monday and Wednesday from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. and Saturdays vary but are generally 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Contact our office to schedule the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) exam before registering.
