Medina County Career Center Adult Education | Ohio Technical Centers (MCCC AE | OTC) is proud to announce its expanded Phlebotomy Technician Program, beginning January 2026. This enhanced adult education healthcare program is designed to prepare students for in-demand phlebotomy careers in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and other medical settings throughout Medina County and Northeast Ohio.

Students Train for a High-Demand Healthcare Career

Phlebotomy Technicians play a critical role in the healthcare system by collecting, handling, transporting, and processing blood specimens for laboratory testing. With strong job growth in the healthcare field, phlebotomy offers a fast and rewarding pathway into medical careers.

MCCC AE | OTC has offered phlebotomy training for years, helping students successfully enter the workforce. The expanded program builds on this proven foundation with additional real-world clinical experience.

Comprehensive Phlebotomy Training

The Phlebotomy Technician program provides hands-on, industry-aligned training for students new to healthcare, including instruction in:

· Phlebotomy basics and medical terminology

· Venipuncture and capillary collection techniques

· Specimen handling and processing

· Professional, ethical, and workplace standards

Students complete 100 hours of classroom and lab instruction, earn Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and perform 30 venipunctures and 10 capillary sticks—meeting eligibility requirements to sit for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

New: 100-Hour Clinical Externship

According to instructor Karastan Sanchez, the most significant enhancement to the program is the addition of a 100-hour externship at participating Medina County hospitals and healthcare clinics.

This supervised clinical experience allows students to:

· Apply phlebotomy skills in real healthcare environments

· Gain confidence working with patients and medical staff

· Build professional experience employers value

The externship bridges the gap between classroom learning and employment, making graduates more competitive in the job market.

Path to Certification and Employment

With comprehensive training, certification eligibility, and hands-on clinical experience, MCCC AE | OTC’s expanded Phlebotomy Technician program is an excellent choice for adults seeking a new healthcare career by Summer 2026.

Classes begin in January 2026, and enrollment is still open. Start your journey toward a rewarding career in healthcare today with Medina County Career Center Adult Education | Ohio Technical Centers.
