Celebrating 10 years serving Medina County families!

The Vision Care (formally Optical Technology) class of 2011 led this community service project when it was discovered there were no free vision clinics in the community. At the time, two of the students were interning at the Medina Vision and Laser with Dr. Timothy Earley.  Dr. Earley encouraged the students to start a local clinic under his guidance and support.

The Bright Eyedeas Clinic was opened in 2011 and has served nearly 400 patients since then. Dr. Timothy Earley consults with patients and performs the examinations; Vision Care students aide by completing preliminary testing and fitting patients for glasses.

2013 graduate Sephanie Slifka, O.D. shared her experience, “I loved being part of the Bright Eyedeas clinic! I loved being a tech and working in optical… I had a feeling going to MCCC that I wanted to be an optometrist but seeing the way the exam was done and being able to help with the exam notes was the Ah ha! moment that helped me see myself doing that for the rest of my life. Fast forward 10 years and I’m now in my first year of practice! “

Mariah Garret, 2019 graduate, added, “With this educative opportunity, I was able to practice and apply the skills I learned in the Vision Care program to treat real patients. This was an opportunity that is unforgettable and prepared me to continue my career in vision care the past two years since I graduated. So much goes into setting up the Bright Eyedeas Clinic each month and Mrs. Peshek and Dr. Earley do an amazing job!”

“I hope to continue serving the community and taking care of their vision needs.  The clinic is a great opportunity for students to get real world experience and to see if this is a career for them.  I would love to have graduates who are now optometrists come and volunteer to do exams”,  said Amanda Peshek, Vision Care instructor.

Families in need of vision care service can call 330.725.8461 ext. 247 to schedule an appointment. Bright Eyedeas Clinic will be accepting appointments January to April 2022.
