Even while school is out for the summer, Medina County Career Center (MCCC) continues to introduce local students to exciting career opportunities in manufacturing. This summer, MCCC partnered with the Medina County Economic Development Corporation and the Medina County Manufacturers Partnership to host the Summer Manufacturing Camp for 60 Medina County middle school students.
The week-long camp combined hands-on learning with behind-the-scenes tours of some of the county’s leading manufacturing companies. Campers kicked off the week in MCCC’s Engineering Technologies & Design and Advanced Manufacturing labs, where they participated in engaging activities such as flying drones, building with LEGO®, creating robotic turtles, and manufacturing their own hammers and fidget toys. After lunch, students visited Rico Manufacturing and Northlake Steel Corporation to experience real-world manufacturing in action.
Throughout the week, campers toured Automation Tool & Die, Three D Metals, Blair Rubber Company, Clampco Products, TWB, SFS Group USA, ConBelt Inc., and Welser Profile North America. Along the way, they explored advanced automation and robotics, learned about lean manufacturing and modern production processes, observed cutting-edge technology in action, and even enjoyed making liquid nitrogen ice cream.
The camp concluded at Welser, where students, parents, and participating staff gathered for a celebratory picnic to wrap up an unforgettable week. During the event, campers shared their experiences with their families, and both students and parents had the unique opportunity to try their hand at traditional forging techniques—providing a memorable finish to a week filled with exploration, innovation, and hands-on learning.
The Summer Manufacturing Camp provided students with an exciting look at the diverse careers available in Medina County’s manufacturing industry while connecting classroom learning to real-world applications. MCCC extends its sincere thanks to the Medina County Manufacturers Partnership, the Medina County Economic Development Corporation, and all of the participating companies for making this unforgettable experience possible. Together, they helped inspire the next generation of skilled professionals and showcased the innovation, technology, and opportunity that exist right here in our community.
