Navigating MCCC’s Ohio School Report Card: Understanding Our 5-Star Rating
If you’re a parent, educator, or anyone interested how our area schools are performing, you’ve probably already heard about MCCC’s spectacular 5-star rating on the Ohio School Report Card released earlier this month. Receiving the maximum score of five stars means that we are significantly exceeding state standards – but what exactly does that mean, and what exactly are these report cards?
Each year, the Ohio Department of Education releases report cards for public schools and districts, offering a snapshot of how well schools are educating their students. They include various measures, such as academic performance, progress, and overall school climate. When interpreting a report card for a Career-Technical school, there are several key measures considered:
Achievement: MCCC Rating – 5 Stars
The Medina County Career Center significantly exceeds state standards for the skills and knowledge gained in students’ career-technical programs and in academics. This is determined by using technical assessments aligned with the individual career-technical programs, and performance levels on Ohio State Tests for academics. In short, our students are gaining the knowledge they need to succeed going forward, whether in their career field or post-secondary education!
Graduation Rate: MCCC Rating – 5 Stars
The Medina County Career Center significantly exceeds state standards in graduation. With a graduation rate of 98.7%, the vast majority of our students are successfully completing their career-technical programs and academic curriculum within the State’s four-year timeframe.
Career & Post-Secondary Readiness: MCCC Rating – 5 Stars
The Medina County Career Center significantly exceeds state standards in career and post-secondary readiness. Whether training in a technical field preparing for work or post-secondary education, our students are extremely well-prepared for all future opportunities. We really are Medina County’s College and Career Connection!
Post-Program Outcomes: MCCC Rating – 4 Stars
The Medina County Career Center exceeds state standards in post-program outcomes. In other words, MCCC graduates are gaining valuable industry credentials prior to and in the six months following completion of their program. The proportion of students who are employed, in an apprenticeship, enrolled in post-secondary education or advanced training or a military or service organization within six months of completing their career-technical program exceeds state standards. Our students are consistently transitioning to post-secondary options or getting started on their careers!
This report card is a reflection of the difference that each and every member of the Medina County Career Center staff makes in the lives of our students daily. We are so proud of their skill, hard work and dedication in fulfilling our mission of being a learning community where students focus on advanced career technical training and academic excellence for life-long success. Thank you all, and let’s keep striving to do even better!
