Tony Bianco Sr, equipment breakdown engineer at Chubb Insurance, was awarded the 2023 MCCC Award of Excellence for his continued dedication and contributions to the Engineering Technologies & Design (ETD) program at Medina County Career Center (MCCC). The MCCC Award of Excellence is presented to an advisory council member who enhances the Medina County Career Center’s position as a leader in education and community impact, takes initiative to solve problems and improve the education and learning of students, and consistently goes over and above in support of the Medina County Career Center’s mission. Mr. Bianco has served as an MCCC advisory council member since 2013. His son, Tony Jr, graduated from the ETD program in 2015 and is also a Chubb Insurance engineer working out of their Chicago office.

Each year, ETD seniors complete a 9-week capstone project. One of the projects Bianco brings to the students every year is to design a live fire grill that is more accessible for those with disabilities. “The project is a real-life engineering project that introduces students to the realities of timelines, budget constraints, and goal adjustments. We take the students to local companies and introduce them to business managers, so they get the experience of talking in a professional setting and learning how to manage expectations throughout the project. My favorite part is the early brainstorming sessions. It’s amazing what they can come up with, if given the right encouragement and resources.”
