Prepare to serve on rescue squads, ambulance services, and fire departments. The EMT course is 184 hours of classroom instruction and 20 hours at clinical sites. This course uses the new National EMS Education Standards and the National EMS Scope of Practice Model as adopted by the Ohio State EMS Board. Instruction includes cognitive and hands-on skill training. The class is presented by MCCC in conjunction with Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital under Accreditation #122. Clinical rotations will be held at Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital Emergency Room and with the Medina Life Support Team. Students have the opportunity to earn the National Career Readiness Certification and sit for the National EMS Registry Exam.

Prerequisites: 1) Must be at least 18 years old; 2) Have a valid Ohio Driver’s License; 3) Clean criminal record; 4) Completion of NIMS 100 & 700; 5) Valid physical examination (physicals are valid for one year from the date they were performed); 6) High School Diploma or equivalent; 7) Passing score on entrance exam; 8) Current vaccinations including MMR / Tdap / Chicken Pox / TB Skin Test / Hepatitis B Series or titer / Flu Shot.

Saturday Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; Weekdays are 6:00-10:00 p.m.

Entrance Exam: Call 330.725.8461 Ext. 155 or Option #4 to schedule the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). Registration is not complete until successfully passing the test.

Job Outlook According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (SOC Code 29-2041): Employment of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics is projected to grow 24 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. Emergencies, such as car crashes, natural disasters, and acts of violence, will continue to create demand for EMTs and paramedics. Demand for part-time, volunteer EMTs and paramedics in rural areas and smaller metropolitan areas will also continue.
