Originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington, it is still officially called \u201cWashington\u2019s Birthday\u201d by the federal government. Traditionally celebrated on February 22\u2014Washington\u2019s actual day of birth\u2014the holiday became popularly known as Presidents\u2019 Day after it was moved as part of 1971\u2019s Uniform Monday Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation\u2019s workers.
