Career-Technical Educators Connect for Regional Day of Collaboration<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Professional development looks a little different in career-technical education! On Friday, October 16, MCCC Career Technical instructors joined educators from across Northeast Ohio for a day of collaboration, learning and idea-sharing hosted by Portage Lakes Career Center<\/strong> (PLCC).<\/p>\n

The event brought together educators from Medina County Career Center, Portage Lakes, Polaris, Mahoning County, Columbiana County, Cuyahoga Valley <\/strong>and Heartland<\/strong> to exchange best practices, share resources and explore new approaches to hands-on instruction.<\/p>\n

Throughout the day, instructors connected with colleagues in similar career pathways, discussed shared classroom experiences and discovered practical strategies to bring back to their programs and labs. Topics included industry standards, technology, industry credentials, instructional resources and innovative teaching practices.<\/p>\n

An inspiring presentation by Dee Smith, Executive Director of the Ohio Association for Career and Technical Education<\/strong> <\/a><\/span>(ACTE), was another highlight of the event.<\/p>\n

As the first event of its kind in Northeast Ohio, the professional development day created valuable opportunities for educators to learn from one another and build lasting professional connections. The conversations extended beyond the event itself, with one group of media teachers even creating a group chat to continue networking and supporting one another.<\/p>\n

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. One instructor summed up the experience simply: \u201cThis day was wonderful \u2013 no notes!\u201d Another called it \u201ca successful day and wonderful for making connections.\u201d<\/p>\n

Educators also shared ideas for building on the event’s success, including rotating the event among career-technical centers to give instructors opportunities to visit other schools and creating a presentation format where educators could share their expertise on topics of interest.<\/p>\n

The enthusiasm for continuing the collaboration was clear: 75% of survey respondents said they would like to see the event become an annual opportunity for career-technical instructors.<\/p>\n

When career-technical educators share ideas, resources and best practices, students benefit. By learning from one another and bringing fresh strategies back to their classrooms and labs, instructors can create even stronger hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for success in their chosen careers.
