{"id":16296,"date":"2020-01-17T09:31:47","date_gmt":"2020-01-17T14:31:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mcjvs.edu\/?p=16296"},"modified":"2020-01-17T10:41:34","modified_gmt":"2020-01-17T15:41:34","slug":"alumna-kaitlyn-prater-excels-as-bmw-tech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mcjvs.edu\/?p=16296","title":{"rendered":"Alumna Kaitlyn Prater Excels as BMW Tech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kaitlyn Prater, a 2016 graduate of Medina County Career Center\u2019s <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/mcjvs.edu\/?page_id=1547\">Power Equipment Technology career-technical major<\/a><\/span>, recently started her career as an automotive technician at BMW, a German multinational company known for its luxury vehicles and motorcycles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I first came to MCCC, I was really shy and didn\u2019t know my place,\u201d said Prater. \u201cMy teachers as well as administration really helped me find myself and be successful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prater chose to apply to MCCC after visiting Power Equipment Technology during <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/mcjvs.edu\/?page_id=567\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sophomore Visitation,<\/a><\/span> an event held every January that allows sophomores in Medina County to spend a school day shadowing two MCCC career-technical majors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had heard so many great things about MCCC before Sophomore Visitation,\u201d said Prater. \u201cOnce I saw it first-hand I knew it was where I needed to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prater started attending MCCC in Fall 2014. Before long, Prater was involved in multiple clubs and <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.skillsusa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SkillsUSA<\/a><\/span>, a career-technical student organization with the mission of empowering its members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2015, Prater went to the SkillsUSA State Competition for Job Skills Demonstration Open. Prater demonstrated a recoil rope change on a lawnmower to win second in the nation and was awarded a $10,000 scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was the moment that turned everything around,\u201d said Prater. \u201cIt was like a freight train. I was not stopping until I got where I wanted in my career.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In Fall 2016, Prater pursued the Complete Automotive Technology program at <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/ohiotech.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ohio Technical College<\/a><\/span> in Cleveland, Ohio. She graduated valedictorian in March 2018 and was the only female accepted into BMW\u2019s 16-week training program at that time. Prater graduated BMW\u2019s program in September 2018 and began working as an automotive technician at one of BMW\u2019s top performing centers in the eastern region. She has since been promoted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI plan to continue to grow my career at BMW,\u201d said Prater. \u201cI owe MCCC everything.
