These are just general steps that most colleges require. As always,\u00a0please feel free to contact your <span style=\"color: #000000;\">MCCC school counselor<\/span> if you have any questions about this process.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> Step 1:<\/span>\u00a0 Complete College Application<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Visit\u00a0specific\u00a0college admissions\u2019\u00a0website and complete one of the following applications.\n<ul>\n<li>Institutional Application &#8211; specific to college.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.commonapp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Common Application<\/a><\/span> is a site that allows you to apply to many different colleges on one application. It is lengthy, so start early!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>List your home school and use your home school counselor\u2019s contact information. DO NOT list MCCC or include MCCC on application materials!\u00a0\u00a0If needed, you may stop by Student Services for home school contact information.<\/li>\n<li>Pay application fee, if there is one.<\/li>\n<li>Fee waivers are available for students who meet criteria. See your school counselor if you feel you qualify.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Step 2:\u00a0<\/span> Request Transcripts to be sent to Colleges (request needs to be sent to your home school)<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>A transcript is a record of a student\u2019s high school classes, grades, attendance, GPA and test scores.\n<ul>\n<li>Visit <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/mcjvs.edu\/?page_id=19286\">Requesting Transcripts<\/a><\/span> to access specifics on how to request transcripts from your home school.<\/li>\n<li>You can always contact your MCCC school counselor for help!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Allow time to process your transcript requests &#8211; Don\u2019t wait until the day before the deadline!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Step 3:\u00a0<\/span> Send ACT or SAT scores to colleges, if required<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Many transcripts will have ACT or SAT scores on them. However, students may need to send scores through the ACT or College Board (SAT) websites using their\u00a0online\u00a0account.<\/li>\n<li>Some colleges require scores to be sent directly from the testing agency\u00a0so please refer to college admissions\u2019\u00a0websites for these details.<\/li>\n<li>Order scores to be sent at least 10 business days before application deadline.<\/li>\n<li>At the time of testing, you can send your scores to up to four colleges for free. Otherwise, there is an additional cost to send scores.<\/li>\n<li>List your home school codes when registering\u00a0for these tests, <strong>not<\/strong> MCCC.\n<ul>\n<li>ACT &#8211;\u00a0<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.act.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.act.org\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li>SAT &#8211; <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.collegeboard.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.collegeboard.org\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #800000;\"> Step 4:\u00a0<\/span> Send Letters of Recommendations as Required or Suggested<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Ask\u00a0recommenders,\u00a0in person, if they are willing to write a recommendation letter.<\/li>\n<li>Give\u00a0them\u00a0two to three\u00a0weeks\u2019 notice\u00a0of any recommendation\u00a0deadlines.<\/li>\n<li>Print or get any recommendation forms to teacher\/counselor with deadline information.<\/li>\n<li>Provide a <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/mcjvs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/Letter-of-Recommendation-Request.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Student Request for Letter of Recommendation<\/a><\/span> to the recommender.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Step 5:\u00a0<\/span> Check your Application Status (Acceptance &#8211; Denial &#8211; Waitlist &#8211; Follow-up)<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Colleges have different ways to communicate. Make sure you know how you will receive information.<\/li>\n<li>Log in\u00a0to your online account to see if any application materials are missing, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Enter an email address that you check regularly,\u00a0not your school email.
